Description:
This talk will describe specific risk factors for long-term sequelae associated with chronic exposure to the trauma of others and strategies to mitigate these. Beginning with definitions for terms it will expand an understanding of concepts and discuss approaches in different fields in support of attending to the clinician's own well-being. Goals will support sustainable, meaningful, and durable participation in this challenging work.

Learning Objectives:
1. Will be able to define trauma including factors contributing to sequelae for the clinician;
2. Will recognize signs and symptoms of negative impacts of accumulating exposure to trauma;
3. Will be able to name 3 mitigating behaviors for personal protection against long-term sequelae of exposure, and one underlying bias interfering with self-protection in the helping fields.
