About me
Dr. Erin Knopf, MD, CEDS, FAAP, DBPN is a triple-boarded physician in pediatric medicine, adult psychiatry, and child & adolescent psychiatry, and an iaedp-Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. She specializes in the holistic treatment of eating disorders and related psychiatric and medical conditions, integrating mind–body care through a weight-inclusive, evidence-based approach.
Dr. Knopf’s clinical work is rooted in the belief that eating disorders are complex neurobiological illnesses—not weight problems—and that health cannot be accurately understood or treated through weight-centric models. Her training allows her to assess medical and psychiatric severity with precision, while thoughtfully limiting polypharmacy and addressing comorbid anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma through biologically informed care.
After years of working in higher levels of care, Dr. Knopf founded VERY (Virtual Eating Recovery for You) to expand access to expert, outpatient eating disorder treatment. VERY’s mission is to help individuals transform their relationships with food, body, and self through a collaborative, multidisciplinary, weight-inclusive model of care. In a health and wellness landscape still dominated by intentional weight loss, Dr. Knopf and the providers at VERY remain deeply committed to dismantling weight-biased clinical frameworks that delay diagnosis, increase medical risk, and cause harm to patients across body sizes.
Dr. Knopf is especially passionate about advancing weight- and size-inclusive medicine through clinician education, systems reform, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her involvement with AWSIM reflects a shared dedication to moving healthcare toward a new paradigm—one that replaces weight-centric assumptions with compassionate, scientifically grounded care that improves outcomes and restores trust between patients and providers.
She is a board member of AWSIM, advisor for MSSI, scientific advisor for ANAD and holds membership in IAEDP, AED, AAP, AACAP, and APA. She continues to advocate for healthcare models where everyone has access to expert, affirming care—regardless of body size.
