Dr. Brewerton is Affiliate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he is in private practice and does research. He is board certified in general, child-adolescent and forensic psychiatry, and addiction medicine. He is Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry, Founding Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders, and Founding member/former president of the Eating Disorders Research Society. He currently serves as Senior Clinical Research Consultant for SunCloud Health and Senior Clinical Advisor for Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Programs. He has reviewed for and served on the editorial board of several major journals and is currently Associate Editor of the Journal of Eating Disorders. He has authored over 200 articles/book chapters and edited two books. He is also the Executive Producer of Sylvia The Wood Nymph (), a documentary film about dissociative identity disorder and society’s barriers to research, treatment and acceptance of the reality of childhood sexual abuse.
